1th January 2009 Happy New year

Yesterday Merijn went with grandfather out to shop some fireworks, that is very popular here to mark the change of the year. It is sold only 3 days at the end of the year and is alowed to be used only from 10 to 02 the last day of the year. Although the sound is very clear that not every body obey those rules.

We spend the evenening eating 'olie bollen' playing cards and watching the end of year show by the stand up comedian Youp van 't Hek, which was very funny. A tradition since 1969 taken on by several what we call 'conferanciers'. Then we heard the top 2 songs of the 'Top 2000 of all times'. Nr 1 is Bohemian Rapsody of Queen. And then it was 2400

Merijn has been around the use of fireworks, but has never set fire to it him selv. But with a close look at the different items in doors and the use of a glow tread and some help of his grand father he learned fast. We were able to see much of the fire works in the air in the vicinity. Where many had spend much more money on this than we, although it was not freezing any more it was very cold and we went indoors. There we had a glass with something bubly, better with a glass of good apple cider than cheap champagne. The new year had begun
