27 December 2008 Xmas is over

Early morning of the 21th December we were off to the airport to be there 2 ½ hours early, but just in time to make it with the endless cueing for the counter, besides that we did not encounter any problems, even thought I had forgotten to reconfirm the ticket. A procedure unfamiliar to me because I have always booked tickets online so far. Anyway we just had time to visit a toilet before we had to enter the preboarding area. During the flight Merijn saw Wall-E 3 times partially with some parts of the Mummy, until it became too scary and the ending of the centre of the earth. There was a long cue for the passport in NL with 2 different cues EU or not EU (in Kenya there are 5 different, Kenyans, Africans, COE…, with visa, without and express). At our luggage belt there were only about 12 persons waiting for their stuff, all other passengers were only for transfer.
My parents were there to pick us up and my brother Thomas was preparing dinner. And later my other brother Maarten dropped by to say hello, he brought Merijn the most fantastic tiny radio controlled car ever. The next days there were a lot of X-mas preparations. My mum and I went shopping for X-mas evening and dinner the day after and so on. Every family has their own traditions. Ours is totally without gifts, and a lot of family. My parents are still living on the farm where I have lived from my 4th until my 19th. In the space next door were formerly the tulipbulbs were dried prior to processing they have made a studio, where my father plays music regularly. This room was decorated and the tables were set for a lot of visitors at Xmaseve. My grandmother was picked up at 2030 and soon after family of my father dropped in with or without having been to church. Since my father sings in the choir he came in last at about 24 and by then we had been exchanging Xmas wishes to large number of family, aunts, uncles and cousins. My father has many brothers and sisters and if only half meet up a normal living room becomes a small place. At about 02 the last persons left and everything was the dishwasher was started.
At first Xmas day we visited the beach where we there were a lot of other people airing themselves with or without dogs. It was sunny and chilly, but the wind was in the right corner. Before driving home again we drank a cup of hot chocolate with cream in one of the cafés behind the dunes in Bergen aan Zee. At my parents house we had Xmas diner, like in half of the families in this country it was raklet/gourmet or whatever this is called in English. All kinds of ingredients are cut into small pieces and baked in tiny frying pans on a heater in the middle of the table. We had both fish and meet with a number of fryable vegetables and for Merijn dough to make pancakes. The day after we visited our grandmother by bike, a chilly ride in the sun, there we were not the only visitors and we heard that several other family members had enjoyed Xmas dinner a similar way.
I hope you all had a just as good Xmas as we.
