This weekend started exceptionally bad. Merijn was at home Friday since he came home on Thursday after an extra long school bus ride, of two hours, due to crazy traffic. He did not feel too well either, picked up a tummy bug somewhere. Friday morning this had become even worse, and even half an hour in the school bus was beyond reason. So Merijn stayed home whole day, with a complete ban on sugar. Yes he was allowed to eat popcorn and apples, his absolute favourites. We keep in touch over skype with regular intervals. Around 15 I had just finished a meeting at work when a thunder rainstorm begun. This became too much home alone, so I went home. I cancelled the appointment with the garage for that afternoon and everything else I had in mind. Luckily Toms is also open on Saturday, so I dropped by at 10 to get a new left mirror. Then I went on to Ngong road, because the ‘fundi’ finished the rose arches I ordered two weeks ago. Of cause they were still painting when I arrived, but they look simply beautiful and everything fitted in the car as calculated. Then I really wanted a cup of coffee, so I stopped at the Junction. When I passed by the Zebu shop I was really liked a belt with shells on them, a lot of other things too, but it isn’t exactly cheap. At Mr Price cloths store they had some sale, and Merijn always needs new trousers, to not be walking around with holes for once, for which I succeeded. The traffic was very ok all the way, luckily and I was home at 13. Merijn was doing ok reading comics at his own sofa and had some juice. At 15 Manfred called me, he was waiting for me at Art CafĂ©, so I walked over. He is contemplating in investing in one of the companies I work with, and wanted some serious advice on future research. Besides he was new to the city and was very interested in my opinion about almost anything, and was not hesitating to share his. For outsiders it might look like I have different male friend every week sitting there, but this was just two weeks in a row. Before dark I exchanged the DVDs for two other and walked home. I wrote a short report on the meeting for Eirik, leading business, to send first thing Monday. Doing so Ramni asked me to resend an email I send a week before, so I did. After that we saw Batman together, Merijn and I. Sunday morning Merijn was doing very well, made pancakes for himself, while I was doing some cleaning and cloth washing. Around 15 we were about to pick up Stepha, and Merijn mentioned he did not feel too great. Together we went to a very interesting shop called Spidersweb. It is very close to here on the Peponi road, it is an ordinary cottage filled from wall to wall and all small and larger rooms in between with Kenya and Africa produced things. Many things one can also find at the Masai market, but then you have to handle the sales men too, which is not a natural capacity for everybody. Here one can have a quite look, and everything has a fixed, not to crazy, price. By the time we went to my place, Merijn was really bad, I made him drink something and put him in bed. He slept at once; the thing only was that Stepha, Merijn and I were invited to have diner in a restaurant at 1830. Merijn was not going anywhere, so neither was I. So I called Miyuki and explained the situation, inviting everybody at my place bringing take away. I had the drinks and the space, luckily she agreed. And within an hour she with a car full with guys (Prakash, Simon and Eike) arrived at my place where we had set the table outside, with candles and drinks. So we could start eating before it got cold. There was a power cut, so reheating in the micro was no option either. Merijn woke up a little later, and watched Batman once more hanging on the sofa, while we were sitting outside enjoying Miyuki’s excellent choice of food. I was very happy that they wanted to spend their evening with me. Since it was Sunday everybody reloaded into Miyuki’s car at a reasonable time, where after I put Merijn in bed once more. Some hours later he became really sick, but
Monday morning everything was reasonably ok again after sleeping as long as he wanted to. We went to work after that, where he was watching some ‘you tube’. Tuesday it will be back to school again, although he will get a note that he does not need to join gym if he does not want too.Picture: interior of Zebu shop
