On 18th November Merijn became 11, 43 kg and 1.63 m. Since we will move back to Norway in a few months I did not invest in large gifts, but on Saturday we had a large kid’s party at the NL school afternoon. Friday Katja and I did some shopping at city market, where we bought huge amount of fruits and some vegetables. In the evening I made one large carrot cake and a small round chocolate cake. The next morning they were decorated, with lemon icing for the carrot and white chocolate on the brown cake with m&m’s. The fruits were cut in finger size pieces, and all filled 10 L bucket and then the watermelon was additionally. All this was served with a choice of drinks. Only two notified they were not coming, but all the others were there, in the swimming pool and on the jumping castle. Some had also brought their smaller brother or sister, and one
brought a friend, almost 20 kids totally. Merijn was not allowed to swim, but he was constantly accompanied by some of the kids that were not in the pool, especially Hidde. They played snooker and with the balloons. Merijn received a lot of nice gifts, including a bakugan, which is the newest trend and some money. At around 16 the party ended according to the Swedish school regulations. Parents had returned from their shopping and other trips and helped with eating the cake and the fruits. Half hour later there everything was cleaned out and one kid was left. Whose parents were not taking his mobile phone, but he knew exactly where he lived, so I brought him home to the nanny. Before we were in Spring valley, the father called and apologised.
At home we unpacked and a cup of tea, then it was off to Brigittes house warming party. For this she had made some South Ameri
can specialities, served with red and white Cato Negro. Brigitte is sharing the house with Jenny and Gregg, as Merin was before. So we already were familiar with the setting and Jenny’s cats.
On Sunday I had planned to make Indonesian food, for which I invited colleagues, but many had to pass because of colliding plans and work. For my tree guest; Katja, Miyuki and Brigitte, I made ayam paniki, nasi goreng, pisang goreng, gadogado and rujak. It was quite some work to make without the boemboes, from scratch and with some improvising on ingredients. With really fresh ginger, Lombok and lemons it apparently went well, although the chillies are still making my finger tips sensitive 24 hours later. Merijn received some very well chosen gifts, and was eating nasi and kroepoek. And he received a lot of expert help with his home work on finding all the names of all countries and islands of Europe.
That evening Merijn and I packed his suitcase, for staying over with Sophies parents for a whole week. Tonight I will fly for work to India, visiting Delhi, Hyderabad, Coimbatore and hopefully Taj Mahal
