Everyday life

We have been here now for almost 2 weeks and everyday life is finding its pace.
At 0645 Merijns alarm clocks goes off, which I put off. Merijn thinks it is great to put it on, but it doesn't manage to wake him up. So much for the alarm clock. Down stairs we order breakfast to Faith or Rose. They make eggs and toast or pancakes (in a lot of maize oil), I can recomment pancake with fresh mango or tiny banana. With this we'll have tea, coffee and fruit juice (different kind every day). Merijn is picked up by the schoolbus, which takes him to school in 45 to 60 minutes, while Merijns sleeps some more.
At the Nederlandse School they start at 0820 with lessons with a short break until lunch. After lunch there often is swimming or physical exercises always outside. The schooldays end at 15, without homework. Then there is some afterschool activity until 16 ('Drawing faces is borring, I rather draw robots or dragons or play football'). Whereaftrer the schoolbus brings him 'home' again.
After breakfast I walk to ICRAF in 15 minutes, sometimes togheter with Stepha a PhD student from Irland. In my office I connect and secure my labtop and start working in emails and papers with plans. Most peope have coffee at 1030, but only on Fridays the whole institute gathers for it and information and announcements are made. At about 1230 people go for lunsch, Warm lunch with meat is servered for €3,50 and a breadrole can be bought for €1,5 (Ksh100 is about €1). Do not expect to find a Kenyan i their office before 14.
I walk home again at 1645 to meet Merijn there, if he is home he'll be watching Disneychannel. There is sataliteconnection with an infinite number of channels to swim in. Merijn and I will have some fruit or so, usualy outside on the lawn. Afterward Merijn hooks up to the internet and plays games.
At the guesthouse dinner is severed at 1930, usualy made my Stella and almost always very good. We sit at a large dinner table together with the other guesthouse residents. This gives very nice and interesting conversations with people from all over the world.
At about 21 I start to put Merijn in bed. After that I do some PC work my selv, if the internet is working or not, or I close the mosquito net and put on the alarm clock in case Merijn has forgotten his :o)
